 Improv (short for improvisation) classes are dynamic, interactive courses designed to teach the art of spontaneous, unscripted performance. They focus on developing quick thinking, creativity, collaboration, and confidence. Here's a breakdown of what improv classes entail and their benefits:

Improv classes are training sessions where participants learn to create scenes, characters, and dialogue on the spot without a script. These classes often involve a series of games, exercises, and performance techniques that encourage participants to think on their feet and respond creatively to unexpected situations.

• The building blocks of sketch comedy, including premise, structure, and comedic rhythm
• Collaborative writing techniques and group creativity
• Character development and acting for comedy
• Basics of directing for both stage and screen sketches

Each session features group brainstorming, writing workshops, rehearsals, and live feedback. Students will explore a variety of sketch styles—like parody, satire, and absurdist comedy—while developing their unique comedic voice. 

 At Curtain Call Academy, our A-Listers represent a very special group of performers. These students have either aged out of our program or are current high school seniors.

The A-Listers showcase the growth, dedication, and talent these students have developed over the years. Their one-act allows them to dive deeper into storytelling, character work, and collaboration, giving them a meaningful and memorable final experience on our stage.

• Theater and Shop Safety
• Scenic design fundamentals and set construction
• Technical aspects and basic operation of lighting technology
• Technical aspects and basic operation of sound technology
• Scenic painting
• Use of properties on stage and construction
• Theater History
• Exploration of career opportunities in the realm of theater

The aim is to provide a hands-on experience that not only imparts knowledge but also nurtures a passion for the technical aspects of theater production. Students run tech for all Curtain Call Academy performances, allowing them to apply their newfound skills in a real-world setting.
